King Edward's Music

On Friday, our Symphony Orchestra’s woodwind section were rehearsing for this year’s orchestral work The Rite Of Spring by Igor Stravinsky.

For Friday afternoon activities on the 29th September, the Shells were treated to demonstrations from our instrumental teachers of their instruments. These included the French horn, bassoon, clarinet, flute, oboe, and orchestral percussion. The photo below shows Mrs Butler and a few volunteers using a hose pipe and a funnel to imitate the sound of a French horn!

Well done to the performers of this year’s Miss Margaret Davis Recital, who put on superb performances of Schubert, Beethoven, and Saint-Saëns. Our next Lunchtime Recital will be on Thursday 12 October.

Well done to all our Shells and Thirds who performed in the Ruddock Hall; their first of what will be many more future concerts! A variety of instruments were played including the violin, bassoon, and the harp.

We’re looking forward to our first ever KES/KEHS Shells’ and Thirds’ Recital this evening at 18:00 in the Ruddock Hall!

This first full week back saw some of our ensembles having their first rehearsals after the summer break, including our KES/KEHS Symphony Orchestra rehearsing The Rite Of Spring, and Choral Society rehearsing John Rutter’s Gloria.

Jazz piano teacher Mr Thompson gave a surprise demonstration to a Shell class on Monday morning, playing the accordion!

Well done to all the pupils from KES and KEHS who performed in our Summer Jazz Concert yesterday! Here are some photos from the event, which feature the Senior Swing Band and one of our pupil-led small bands.

The next music event in the Ruddock Hall will be the last Lunchtime Recital for this academic year, which is happening on this Thursday 22nd June at 13:10. No tickets required.

Well done to everyone who performed at our penultimate Performers’ Platform for this academic year! Below is our 19th Century quintet who performed Brahms’ Scherzo from his Piano Quintet in F minor, op.34.
